Mock book design
For this project, we were tasked with creating our own book.
This book could be a collection of short stories, a fable, a
summary of a novel, or a similar concept. We were to create a publication that presents our content in a unique way. This
took me out of my comfort zone, as I have never made a book before and I needed to create a mockup. However, I welcomed
the task with full confidence.
process
My research focused on collage & silhouette illustrations, book design, and poem books. This aided in the decision of layout, typography, and illustrations. The illustrations are collage-like because aspects such as the mountains are stamps of real life pictures. The illustrations were made in Procreate and the page layout and typography were done in InDesign. The book title was created with one of the supplied brushed in Procreate. Some of the pages are decorated to create visual interest and to break up the structure slightly.

For the final piece, more illustrated pages were created, such as the Aurora lights and the mountain landscape. The mockup was made to be 7 by 9 inches because there was not much content. Also, it got rid of unnecessary negative space. To make the book slightly more unique, a Japanese binding was selected for the stitching.
